I haven't been able to load Cachemate into my PDA (WM5).
[EDIT] Dowloaded and installed Geoscout. I'll have a play with it when I get the opportunity but so far I like the ability to download the relevant maps for each cache. |

I'm now (apparently) knowledgeable with Geoscout and it's initial flaky-ness. But getting there with daily emails to 'the man'.
I was about to cash out on Memory Map till I realised I could get OS 1:50,000 on it for free! _________________ Anyone for a Hot Cross bun and a Creme Egg? |

It's a Geocaching app for a PDA running Windoze Mobile.
It's a bit flaky but has the potential to mature into a useful app if the developer puts a bit more time into it. |

'The man' now says he's going to get back onto improving Geoscout in a few weeks time. If it can do what it promises, it'll be spot-on.
Beeline GPS on the other hand has proven to be a glitzy but bland lemon puff. It's that flaky. No 'proper' maps? Puh. With only lat/long grid to see your caches on it's a dead dug. It crashed and burned today on day 4 of it's existance, failing to re-open at all. Meanwhile, (flawed) Geoscout is still doing the job.
The BeelineGPS 'murican junk is now retired to whence it came.
Geoscout? I'll keep you posted when he posts me.
Compared with the screenshots of Cachemate, bear in mind that with Geoscout; it takes the gc.com cachepage and splits it into:
The top section with name, co-ords, hint etc. The hint may be decoded with a tap.
The whole description - most definitely a useful tool for caches such as allieballie's or mine - is available to read. Multi? Sure... tap your answers directly onto the description as you go around and then do the calculation at the bottom - without going to a separate fiddly notes 'tab'.
AND you can see where you are; moving over a good ol' OS 1:50,000 as well as the usual compass, etc., etc. pages.
A few tweaks to the mapping facility and the exclusion of already found caches whilst downloading will have it sorted.
PS - It's British so wave the jingo-istic flag for 10 seconds!

'The man' did his job and the new look is much improved. Zooming in on the OS map is sorted. Ok, it's 1:50,000 but I'm buying lots of sweeties with the money not spent on M Map.
The font for the cache location is resized and the compass view is now on a tab off the map/cache view so that fiddling about in different views are not needed.
The satellite info page is now sorted for view on VGA screens.
Demo. on Sunday mebbe.

Oh ha ha
The whole lot crashed spectacularly. This left me at Tummel without any map, cache or GPS data. (I was being smart and didn't bring backup and had no idea at that stage where to go.
Was I happy? Nooooo...
'The man' didn't hang around. He clearly jumped after my email from Pitlochry about what a day I'd had.
On a Sunday too. We now have new features:
Automatic downloading of maps if required; choice of 9 or 25 OS grid tiles which means the likes of Schiehallion is covered top to bottom.
Lots of Angus caches to do! _________________ Anyone for a Hot Cross bun and a Creme Egg? |

Hmm. I downloaded an update but the maps were still skewed and there didn't seem to be too many other changes. What version are you on?
PS paperless caching doesn't mean you leave your map & compass behind |

You can see Schiehallion from Tummel Bridge! It's the rather large bit of rock just over to the right a bit. What a shame! _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

And from the top of Schiehallion, we could easily see the Tummel power station (full of whizzy turbine things ) and behind that, in the distance, Blair Castle.
(Just worked out by drawing straight lines in Memory-Map!) |
