|

After reading the feedback from one of my caches, a really good point has been made.
There used to be a time (before I started geocaching), when protecting your cache from the elements was one of your first considerations.
But now, with the advent of airtight containers such as lock and lock, why shoud we still be wrapping our airtight containers in plastic bags ?
Plastic bags offer no more additional protection than the new airtight boxes offer, so for the sake of the small creatures that munch the plastic bags, I'll be removing the plastic bags from my caches.

I also placed my caches in placcy bags, but it was the threads on GC.com that brought it to light for me that they aren't a good idea. I removed what I believe to be the last bag from one of my caches, (i.e. I don't think any more of my caches are in bags) I must say that when I removed the bag, I was dissapointed with myself that I hadn't brought another to put the one I removed into. The bag was stinking and made a mess of my holdall.
I'm pleased to see that you didn't take offence at the feedback Jacobite, some people would? _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

None taken Dave, it's a valid point.
I'm going to have to come up with something for the micro's in "Utterly Off The Rails", those film cans ain't water tight, hence the need for the placcy bags, maybe laminating the co-ords slips......I'll think of something ! |

Laminating the co-ord slips would be your best bet I would reckon? _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

Dave, What do you call that plastic strip stuff that you stick in a gun and punch numbers or letters straight on to it, it's got a sticky back, and you used see it on the front of filing cabinet drawers? |

Dymo Tape is what you are thinking off. I don't think they make it in the plastic strip anymore (I may be wrong). But you can buy little machines that will print the tape out for you. If you are going to do what I think you are, you may want to try out a black or other dark tape. _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

Dymo Tape... aaah, those were the days...
First office job I had after leaving school: one day, I was handed the Dymo machine and told to "label that filing cabinet."
That was it - no other instructions. So I made a strip which said: THIS IS A FILING CABINET and stuck it on there.
They watched me very closely after that...

When I were nowt but a sprog, one of the highlights of my Summer Holiday was the (steam) train ride from Liverpool Street Station (that's in London ) to Lowestoft with my grandparents. I always had to have a go on the label printing thingy that was in the station. You wound a pointer to the required letter, pulled the lever at the side with a mighty 'clang', and eventually ended up with your name stamped onto a 1/2" wide strip of aluminium. S'pect it's because of stuff like that that I ended up being an engineer |

As I write this there is one of those very strips stuck on my fridge. The letters embossed on it are SLIEVE-NA-GARRAGH, the name of an insignificant mountain in the Mournes. It must be some fifty years ago that my father invested 1 old penny to stamp this out for me. (Maybe it was 3d, I don't recall.) |

Dymo tape seems to bring back long forgotten memories that put a smile on our faces, can anyone think of other items from the past that put a wee smile on your face? |

A wildlifewriter classic!
Worth joining forum for this alone.
ps. It must have been a Senior office position to be afforded immediate control of the Dymo Tape machine or perhaps they spotted great potential at a young age. |

Jack and took the liberty of removing the plastic bag at 'Neid a Path' yesterday, Jacobite. Hope you don't mind, but the bag was full of holes and not serving much purpose. And you had very wisely used a lock & lock container anyway. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

Did a bit of cache maintenanace this weekend and removed my necrotic black bags. (They were very useful for taking away the odd bits of rubbish lying about into the bargain!)
I now feel VERY pleased with myself! |
