Sorry to lower the tone, but does anyone recognise this?

Spotted today on a mountain moor. I had just seen a red grouse near by. Could there be any connection?

Hubbie says it pheasant poo. Apparently they roost overnight in same bit and it builds up. Shocked

Looks a tad suspect to me but as he can't use a computer I safe to say that. Laughing

Yes, it would appear that it must be a repeat performance.

This moor is devoid of any possible roosting trees. Not a pheasant in sight. Could it therefore be from the grouse? Could you ask him, please?

He not sure sry Crying or Very sad There not too many grouse in East Neuk but birds are a lot similar.

Personally I think whatever it is it is needing to cut down on its fibre intake Wink

Rather tentatively, I'm going for pheasant as well.

This based on no more than (a) size - would expect grouse poo to be smaller, and (b) colour - grouse droppings tend to be more yellowish or even orange-ish. Apparently because they eat a lot of heather shoots. (It says, here.)

Could be wrong - none of my field guides include close-up pictures of bird crap, for some unfathomable reason. Smile

For those with a particular interest in poo, I can recommend Snaik's new cache Not Queen's View Again (GCV2GY). FoF and I ftfd it yesterday. It is a worthwhile stroll up a rocky gorge with some terrific waterfalls. And a continous trail of shite various all the way up (or down) culminating sadly in a plastic bag containing some large and decomposing human deposits.
