|
|
My Internet Explorer 6 is hanging for ages as I try to navigate around GC.com
(Firefox is fine)
I can't seem to access links from GSAK nor Memory Map without IE hanging completely.
Is it me?
Any suggestions?
I've posted this same question on Groundspeak forum |

It's likely been sorted now if you try again; no doubt due to the new improved (well, altered...) appearance.
Like we have 'trackables' now.
Mind you, quite why you use IE to look at the site when you have Firefox...

Still cripplingly slow, and some limks hanging completely, but as I say Firefox is ok.
So how do I get links to open in Firefox rather than IE6? |

Checked a random selection of caches and image links on gc.com and it's as ok as it'll ever be on IE.
Try clearing cache (no pun intended) and history etc? |

Well, it'd be easy to say, what d'ya expect from IE... so I'll say it!
However, the cache and links within load okay here on Firefox. Cleared that off and closed Firefox, then found it on IE - again no probs.
???
Your antivirus, spyware etc etc are all up to date and scanned at regular intervals religiously? |

Yes - that might be part of the problem - I think its blocking cookies.
But - having used Firefox for the last few hours - I'm hooked.
How do I make it my default browser?
P.S. Apologies to everyone else if this is all about me!
Tune in next week when I seek an answer for my hot flushes. |

I notice that the new style sheet layout has been fixed in the last couple of hours. During this afternoon (Wed) it was more or less bu______d, and I thought I was going to have to re-write all my cache pages. Again.
If Jeremy & Co WERE modifying CSS documents while the site was running, it would explain some of the problems mentioned in this thread.
The most complicated HTML I have is the page for GCPZRB - Slipes and Bogies. (Which is really Wuthered's cache, but it became mine under mysterious circumstances.) Even this multi-table layout seems to be OK, now.
I do wish Geocaching.com would test this stuff properly, before using it.

Ahhh... another convert to the cause.
Well, guess what, you can change the 'skins' on Firefox to lots of other ones. Go to Tools - Themes click on: 'get more themes'. Once you find one that suits you, click on it and once the download is done, click on it; then close and re-start Firefox (it prompts you anyway) I'm on ifox at present, clear and easy to use.
I find the downloads easy to use when 'working' rather than fiddling on forums; and the 'tabs' make it far easier to use (IMHO) than I.E.
Oh: Go to View - Toolbars - Customise to drag and drop other icons to the top to set it up the way you want.

Popped up in milliseconds now that I've got Firefox as my default.

Good! Now we'll get you onto Thunderbird (no, not the fortified wine...) for your e-mail!
Guess what, if you don't do web-based mail, just follow the numbers so to speak and it'll configure itself for you and take all the useful stuff out of Outlook Express for example. |

I have also been using Firefox and Thunderbird for some time now. Thoroughly recommended. |

As a non-convert to either, why are they better? _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain
