...and how do you solve them?
You know, the ones with the annoying picture clues that look like a really lo-res black and white image, kind of like a barcode?
I can't make head nor tail of them - what is one supposed to do to solve the blighters? _________________ weegiegrum |

If you have a recent camera phone there is a good chance that there is an application for it that will allow you to take a picture and will then translate the barcode into clear text. There are probably desktop applications for that as well. |

Oh, so it IS a barcode? I haven't come across those before. Do they have a 'mundane' use or is it something specifically for making puzzle pictures to annoy geocachers? _________________ weegiegrum |

As far as I know it is a Japanese invention to have them on billboards and other kind of adverts so you can use your mobile to quickly buy the product with your phone.

I know that this is a puzzle cache with spoof coordinates but it's definitely not in Scotland . |

Ah, sorry about that, just picked out all the qr caches from my GSAK Database didn't realize that a cache from England had sneaked in.
Thanks for noticing that. _________________ "It's not whether you get knocked down.

So if you don't have a camera that can read this bar code, how do you manage to decode the puzzle? _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

Either by applying the standard using pen and paper (not recommended) or using a software tool. I don't want to put in a link as it may be considered a spoiler by the cache owners. |

A software tool that you can take with you into the field is recommended. (I have one....very useful) |

If you want to download good but free software for your PC then go to the link below and download the BarCapture program. This will decode both QR and grid codes so remember to make sure you choose the right settings.

I have just download a free app for my phone that reads these QR thingies. Have just tried it out on GC26GJ5 and it worked perfectly. Can't believe I am able to do a techy thing like this so easily! Loving my new phone! _________________ Only dead fish swim with the stream |

Don't forget there are two ways to do this type of cache -
1) Online by submitting the image URL to the online decoder
2) Using an app out in the field with a PDA/iphone type handheld device. |
