I'm sorry to say that Ewan's (aka Billy Twigger) move from hospital to home just before Christmas was short-lived and he was back in hospital within a week or two.
In the last month, Ewan's health has deteriorated significantly, and he is not expected to survive and is receiving palliative care. He has a very strong heart that keeps him going, but the strain on his family, who visit every day, must be tremendous.
I know that those of you who had the good fortune to know Ewan, or to cache with him, or even to do any of his marvellous caches, will be very sorry to hear this. He is such a nice guy and neither he nor his family deserve what they have been through these last two and a half years. For those of you new to caching, Ewan fell from a cliff on Bute (while cache setting) and suffered very serious injuries in September 2006. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

I took a bad fall while putting out my Old Haunts cache, and ended up in hospital with concussion. Caching can be dangerous.
I've never met Ewan, but I wish a fellow cacher all the best. |

Very very sad news, and I honestly don't know what else to say, except my thoughts are fully with all of his family, who are every bit as nice as what Ewan is, and not one of them deserve this.
Thank you for the update Sally. _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

Bad news, though not entirely unexpected.
We can only hope that this return to hospital might see Ewan's condition being stabilised again, at least in the short term.

Not very good news, hope he improves once he's back in hospital. _________________ "It's not whether you get knocked down.

Sad news indeed, I'm sorry to hear that Ewan and his family are going through all of this. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Ewan has been back in hospital since before Xmas. He was home in the new bungalow that his wife had bought for only a very short time before it was clear that his condition was not stable enough for her to be able to look after him.
I have received updates from Ewan's Dad. I'm afraid that the news is stark:
"I'm very sorry to say that the hope of him carving out some satisfactory wheelchair bound lifestyle has gone and we are all braced for the only possible outcome - the end of his life." _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

| I'm extremely sorry to hear that. I'd hoped that the lack of news was good, but not so. My thoughts and prayers are with Ewan and his family. |

Although I've never met 'Billy Twigger', he did send me a couple of emails with help back in 2004 when I had a couple of DNFs.
It was so nice to offer help to a newbie who he didn't know from Adam.
Never did find one of the caches!
My thoughts and prayers also go out to Ewan and his family. _________________ "Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda |

Thank you for passing on the sad news Sally. Although I never got to meet Billy T I know of him though his reputation - people have always been warm and appreciative of him. Our thoughts are with his family.
