For our Irish colleagues, some updated information about the legendary GC16C8 - Points West

This cache was placed on 5/8/01, on a lighthouse rock off the far west coast of Ireland, and has never been found. So inacessible is the location that it's hardly ever been looked for, even. Let's remind ourselves of the problem...

Many people (myself included) were of the opinion that this cache might not have survived the storms and high seas which regularly smash over Slyne Head.

HOWEVER... in the last 24 hours, I've had an e-mail from the cache owner, stating that he has visited the cache and the container is still there!

Now that really would be a first-to-find.... Smile

And how, exactly, does one get there? Surprised

Airlifted in by helicopter?

The cache owner has a boat.

I don't have a boat. I used to have a boat, but now I don't have one. Nor no helicopter, neither.

There are plenty of boats on the coast down there... but at this time of year, the skippers are getting 400 - 500 euro per day, from sea fishing charters. They aren't interested in "trips round the lighthouse"... Sad

I must look in Wuthered's outbuildings, some time - there's probably a boat in there.

In fact (knowing Wuthered) there could well be most of a helicopter in there as well, behind all the lawnmowers...

I've a nasty feeling that the "outboard" is that red-and-white thing on the right of the picture...

Shocked

Great idea John, only problem is that the cache is in Ireland. Perhaps a IGDO would be called for?
