We are making plans to walk the Highland high way from Fort William to Drymen (Yes, backwards;-) in may 2007.

We bought ourselves the necessary ordnance survey maps and "The Highland Highway" by Heather Connon & Paul Roper.

With the descriptions in that book however, it will be very hard to find the route in opposite direction.

So we are looking for a GPS tracklog of this Route. Who can help us please?

Don't have a tracklog but using the West Highland Way caches as markers as well as your maps should help as the Way is fairly well marked and there is likely to be others on it should make it pretty easy even if you are doing it in reverse (as I have done)

What happens if you "draw" this track using Memory-Map for instance, save it as a .gpx file, email it and then transfer it to the GPS?

I suppose this would work reasonably well s long as the track is drawn with a degree of accuracy?

Is there a limit to the number of waypoints that make up a track? If so, this would be a limitation on a long route like the WHW?

Any other GeoXers wish to comment??

Funnyily enough that is when I am doing my sponsored walk. When in May are you doing it, if it's at the same time, I will have a white T-Shirt on with a large red logo. I will also look extremely F*****

I wish I knew about this yesterday I have just made a tracklog, so that I can then upload to make a route for caches on GC.com. It took me ages Laughing

Using the file from Google Earth, I have made a route for the West Highland Way. It can be viewed here.

Unlike cache pages it displays differently for the cache owner, so I could do with someone to check it out and let me know if it turns up the correct details?

Don't worry about the mileage that it says, you have to reduce the points on a route so it flies like a crow at parts, thus reducing the route. So it isn't exact.

Now I have had a go, I now like this toy. I have just made another for the Union Canal

I have now found out how to also do it using MM, which appears to be a bit better? So I have re-done The West Highland Way.

I didn't manage to view the route as it's for premimum members only.

The route you have quoted has been deleted. My other log above has the new route.

I didn't realise that only Premium Members could view the routes. I thought it would have been the same as bookmarks lists you can view it but nothing else.

I suppose once you think about it, the main thing about the route is getting a PQ along it, to get a PQ you have to be a Premium Member. So the routes aren't much use to standard members!!

I never realised this existed, if you can get a link to the recognised route I will try and make a tracklog up for you. Will a gpx file be sufficient or would you prefer MM?
