A personal list of some indispensable software for the Palm, mostly with caching or general navigation in mind.

Key: *-Should run on any old Palm, **-supports hi-res and/or external cards, ***-specific to Garmin iQue 3600/3200, £-small fee for fully functional version, ££-huge fee for app or upgrade.

**£ Cachemate - The definitive paperless Palm app for geocaching. Imports GPX files, sorts and searches, keeps logs. Multiple databases possible.

** Cachenav - Navigation add-on to Cachemate for GPS-enabled Palms and iQue. Can record new waypoints, and even average the position of them.

*** Fastfinger - Scripting command launcher. The iQue is a good in-car unit, but its fiddly buttons and tiny icons mean that any attempt to adjust it while driving must involve an early arrival at the Scene Of The Accident. Fastfinger can combine complex setting and control sequences into one single screen tap. It's a major contribution to road safety.

*** Wayque - Adds on most of the waypoint management functions that Garmin forgot to include.

* c1pher - Basic-but-useful ROT13 decoder and encoder for Palm. Handy for when an extra encrypted clue is dropped on you, in the middle of a multicache.

*** Queiet - A little utility to remove Garmin's annoying disclaimer screen from QueGPS.

* Tide Tool 2.2 - Computes and predicts tides around the GB coast (and bits of Ireland.) Revised version 2.2 now less likely to leave you high and dry by mistake.

**£ GrxView - A well-featured graphics viewer; supports most screen res and file types. Can use ext memory card. Zoom facility good for spoiler photos.

**££ Pathaway - Mapping and nav software for GPS-enabled Palms. Imports and calibrates raster maps, satellite images, whatever. Slightly cheaper than Fugawi and very slightly easier to use, but still a challenge.

**£ eReader - Ebook reader with landscape mode and ext memory support. Great for those days when you can't be bothered to go caching.

PortaHo - Another useful app for when you can't be bothered to go caching. Functionality a little difficult to explain, in a few words... Wink
