|
|
Rainbows are a familiar sight on the West of Scotland. I’ve seen lots of double rainbows and I understand the principle. The light is bouncing of the top surface of the raindrop, as opposed to the bottom surface (or the other way round) to produce the outer and fainter bow. (That’s why the outer rainbow’s colours are reversed!)
Until recently I have never seen a forked rainbow. It’s not a trick of the lens, it was clearly visible to the naked eye. Can anyone explain this?

Never heard of this, but I have a book on Meteorological Optics and it suggests that this rainbow can be seen if you have two suns. Apart from HH's alien world the other source would be a reflection off the sea or a lake.
So if there was water behind you when you took the picture, that might be the answer. If not then I agree with HH.
In any event it is a great picture.

I entirely agree with HH. They should be on Webshots for all to enjoy.

I hope that Seacon can see fit to replace this one, or re-hide it close by. It's a wee belter of a cache.

They be no pirates, wi' a curse, ram burn and sink me else - they be some kind o' sterotypified Hollywood pirates. The sort of pirates what would engage the enemy hand-to-hand, wi' flashing cutlass and clash o' cold steel, by th' powers - instead o' pistolling 'im safely in the back, as would proper sea-scum pirates such as we.
Show them lily-livered poltroons a REAL geocache, mateys, what time they'll be searchin' for him 'til moon shines over th' foretops'l - an ye may lay to that!
Us'll sink, destroy and cast anchor in 'em, d'ye see, and feed their (that's enough Long John Silver -Admin) |

It just so happens that the timing for this post co-incides with the end of Cut Throat Island on TV _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

I have re-hidden a new cache container today to replace the stolen original. I've positioned it at a different location, approx 50m away, and updated the details and co-ordinates accordingly on the geocache page. As this new venue really is at The End of The Rainbow I had to spend considerable time picking up the pieces of Gold from the seashore!
Is there any suggested maximum distance after which the re-positioning of an existing cache container, to a new location, should be reported as a new cache site with associated GC.COM Approval process being obtained? |

I don't know what the official position is on that - nor want to. I'm afraid that I've been known to shift my own caches around in a completely wanton and shameless manner.
Beachcomber moved nearly 800m up the beach, soon after it was placed; Clare Glen wanders around its little wood from time to time; while Watermaze is now over a kilometre from where it first started.
There's no end to the toil...
