This is for those tiny few who use Trimble Planning software as a desktop GPS simulator.

(If you don't like boring techie stuff, or don't want to know the the result, please look away now.)

I had an e-mail last week from a non-member, who had tried out this software and declared it was pants. "This is pants," he wailed, "None of the satellites are shown in the correct position!"

And do you know - he was right.

To be any use, the simulator must use a fairly up-to-date table of the ephemeris data - ideally, the latest version available. This can be obtained here:

current.ssf

Select "file save as..." and save it in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Trimble, replacing the existing file of the same name if there is one.

This little exercise needs to be performed on a regular basis, to keep the correct orbital parameters on hand.

Hi,

Any clue as to just how often the ephemeris should be downloaded? It's obviously a pretty small file, and no problem downloading, but for efficiency it would be useful to know.

Ta!

I try to keep mine updated at least once per month. These seems to be more than enough.

Hth,

Wlw - Thanks for reply - there were many hidden pitfalls using this datum - e.g. what if I checked a track made a week ago and had not downloaded the ephemeris for a month? Suspect slight changes in results but best to be sure!
