...have recently appeared next to some caches. One was EU 05 and another is a circle with a German flag in it. What are they? |

These will be icons for GeoCoins - they probably appear in the TB section on the cache page. EU 05 is the European geocoin (issued by SlytherinAlex). There are a number of German coins in circulation. |

If you have a look at the profile for Icon SP you can see all the icons that are out there.
You'll also come across this icon which donates several Geocoins in one cache. _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

Cheers HH, I was wondering what that icon was, obvious now, but I was suffering from brain fart at the time. |

I doubt it.
Looks like a good and interesting multi-cache. The Champion Toilets of Haddington, eh? - one can hardly wait...
I have a suggestion for you: Wuthered and I recently found a similar "walking tour" cache, in Stroke City, which was very well done (by Dino-Irl). Like your new one, it had quite a number of stages.
On the cache page, he included a link to a .GPX file of all the intermediate waypoints* - which could be fired into Wuthered's GPSr, obviating the need to enter them all by thumb.
An excellent feature, which I commend for all multis of this this type.

That is a great idea, but I haven't a clue how to do that!
Ok, I can create a GPX file using GSAK with the coords in it, but what do I do with it then? _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

This is a genuine old-fashioned-style thread hijack - apologies to jester2005.

Aye, well, hmm... geocaching.com doesn't provide any facility for doing such a thing, so the file has to hosted on a web site. Either your own web site - or send the file to me and I'll host it on NTL.

Ok, I'll have a go. I have some webspace, but thanks for the offer. It doesn't really matter about zipping such a file, does it, as its pretty small anyway (19KB)? _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

Shame on you all for hijacking the thread... Here's getting back on target.
Picked up a Wooden Nickel GeoCoin today. How disappointed to find that, although trackable, it's not on GC, but a separate Californian geocoin site. So no icon for me. |

When I began working for Her Majesty, computer memory was precious. To store a file more than 8kb required approval at the equivalent of Brigadier in military terms (for Dr Who fans). And my fridge has more processing power than the first home computer I owned.
And what does this prove?
(1) I am very, very old
(2) I am very, very sad
(3) I have just hijacked this thread again......
Sorry, Nick. Nice try and all. But you wouldn't begrudge an old fart, now would you?

Felt the same way with the first Geocoin I ever found, it happened to be a Canadian coin and was only trackable through it's own website too. |
