|

Does anyone know a way to find out how many Uk geocachers (roughly) there are. I realise that this may only be registered accounts rather than active cachers.
I have tried a search on the g.com forums but didn't find anything. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

Don't know the exact answer to your question but I do know that there are 14,594 cachers who have placed currently active caches in the UK. If you then make an assumption that say only 50% of cachers have every placed a geocache then there must be in the order of 30,000 cachers in the UK.
You could get a better feel for the correct %age to use above as your mutiplier by looking at the logs for a large event and then clicking on each attendee and working out the ratio of placed to not placed.
Hope this helps. _________________

Maybe GC.com HQ could give you the figure from their database! Additionally there are cachers who have moved their caches to other sources. _________________ "Failure lies not in falling down. Failure lies in not getting up." |

Thanks for the replies - its a very difficult figure to work out, but I only needed a rough guess. The geocaching league tables show about 8,000 cachers with over 200 finds - of course some of them may not be active any more. Another thread here suggested it was around 8,800. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

Ive done some more work on my UK database in GSAK and I have run an SQL script to look at all the logs I've got since 12/9/2011 and count all the distinct names of cachers that have added them.
This returns arround 41,800 distinct names so if you take off say 5% for non UK cachers then its looking like there are a minumin of 40,000 active cachers in the UK. _________________
