Folks,

I have a rare Saturday on my own this weekend and thought it would be a good opportunity to go get some caches. But I'm having trouble deciding where to go...

So, any suggestions? It would need to be:
- within about an hour's drive of Edinburgh
- an interesting area / good cache locations
- decent cache density Cool
- probably not at the top of a mountain as (1) I'll be on my own and (2) the weather forecast is pish Shocked
- not the Pentlands as I tend to save those for other occasional forays

All ideas/suggestions welcome!

Start just north of Dunbar (at the end of Limetree walk and draw a line as far as Eyemouth .............. all great caches and far more than you can do in a day .............. but the next free day you'll want come back.
It's where I go from Edinburgh if I have the time and the hound of the Lammermuirs would agree

Whatever you decide have a great day out!

The Lomond Hills will keep you occupied for a full day, and you could get well over 40 caches. I done them on my own just the other week and the climb to the top of them isn't to difficult.

The Lomonds are good (or anywhere in Fife, for that matter).

Another good lot is "Walk the Line" along the Dunfermline to Alloa old railway line. I prefer to cycle it, but you can do either, and there's lots of others in the area too. The terrain is obviously pretty flat, but very scenic and one of my favourite cycling areas.

Enjoy your freedom!

Very Happy

Thanks, they're some good suggestions.

I've had a couple of really great days out caching with no. 1 daughter down Tyninghame/Dunbar way so might skip that one this time. Our favourite beach is down that way so it's a regular haunt during the summer months.

I've not ventured much into Fife for caching so will probably go with either the cycle track or the Lomond hills depending on the weather. I seem to recall seeing a cache in a disused railway(?) tunnel up that way - I know that's very vague but does it ring any bells?

Would it be In The Ochils by any chance?
If so it would look like you are out of luck as it was archived last year.

Great another chance to walk back down that spooky tunnel.

Right, that's decided it. I'm off to Glenfarg to do the tunnels & loop back over Pottie hill. Having read the logs about glowsticks I'm tempted to take the tilley lamp with me!

Thanks once again to all for providing the necessary inspiration.
