Well, I know I never post here (but do check occasionally)... however I just wanted to quietly blow my trumpet and say I have eventually found my 300th cache! Very Happy

My century cache was one on a small island (well, sort of island...) on the West coast of Denmark called Romo. I hadn't realised it was actually number 300 until I logged it (laptop in car).. but it was an interesting and unique one at least (GC1VB4G). Denmark is such a great country... there are so many caches here. Even one in a cachers back courtyard (GC1W168) !

If you ever fancy getting away from the UK for a few days, you should keep an eye on the Ryanair website. The two of us flew both ways for £8 each (+£10 debit card fee.. rip off!). Oh and if you have kids, Legoland Billund (the home of Lego, next to the place they manufacture it) opens up next weekend Smile

Gavin

Well done! Never been to Denmark, but would like to someday. However, I have a personal policy never to fly Ryanair if I can possibly help it. So far, I've managed to abstain...!

Cool

Well Done Gavin. £8 for a flight even with the £10 debit card fee, is a bargain. I've never used Ryanair so I wouldn't know why I wouldn't want to?

Well done Gavin, I see you managed quite a few while you were over there, last time I was in Denmark was over 40 odd years ago and Geocaching hadn't been invented but it was a beautiful country.

Congratulations on reaching 300, onwards and upwards to 400.

Well they are known for charging for absolutely "any" extra whenever they can, which is probably the biggest issue for folk. But if you manage to have a few days break and have everything you need inside carry-on baggage, then it's definitely possible. Just bear in mind that a coffee on board is over £3 and don't even ask about the food Smile

It "is" possible to travel for very little though, by searching for flights as soon as you receive their special offer emails. I flew to Sweden with them last year (allbeit 50 odd miles from Stockholm) for roughly the same price as here. Also flew to Poland (an ex-girlfriends home country) for around £30 each way a few years back.

We hired a car on both occasions and stayed in quite a nice (small) hotel and the cost of those is about the same as the UK. If you wanted to do it budget, the public transport is fairly good here and theres plenty campsites too.

Well done on 300 gavin, sounds like a nice place for a break, wonder if I could sneak the loyal companion on as hand luggage?

Firstly, well done Gavin!

Secondly, I agree with the charging extra for anything for anything they can bit re. Ryanair but... the fact is that if you are only going away for a few days i.e. a weekend break, then you will probably be able to fit everything you need into a bag small enough to take on as hand luggage, and...iypu know, it is possible to survive for a few hours without having to buy onboard drinks and food!

We have used Ryanair and Easyjet a lot over the last 10 years and my only criticism is from something that happened last summer not directly related to the airlines concerned. We had hired a rental car from a company connected to Easyjet- Sixt. Had rented a child seat which we paid an £80 deposit for, refundable on return. Two weeks after we returned I received a bill charging me for the child seat because we apparently had not returned it (like I would have taken it back on the plane with me!). However, we had no receipt to show that the car seat had been left in the car when we returned it, and the whole thing was a minefield of our word against theirs. So that would be my only warning!

Well done Gain!

And sorry you had to post your own thread - but I suppose that noone was likely to notice what you were doing in Denmark.

My son might be doing a summer internship in Copenhagen, so there may be an opportunity for us to sample the Danish caches on a visit.

I suppose I am one of the more sporadic cachers and can "drop off the net" for months at times, so it's no surprise people forget about me. I do still enjoy it greatly though and just wish I could spend a lot more time pursuing them!

It's always good to see all the regular cachers still hard at work placing and finding though. One thing for sure is that I am never going to have to travel far from my front door for the next unfound cache Smile
