I did Forest Fruits yesterday and as usual, I moved away from the cache site to fill out the log. When I returned I found that I was about to have a problem replacing the cache as 2 children had appeared from over the fence and had started to play about 15 feet from the cache site.
I hung around for 10 to 15mins pretending to look at the forest floor but they showed no signs of going so I ended up having to put the cache in my rucksack and wander off. Fortunately when I returned a further 20 mins later they had gone so I could replace it.
I was wondering if they were still there when I returned should I
A) wait longer, but if so, how much?
B) hide it nearby and email the cache owner and post the co-ords?
C) take the cache home and replace it later that afternoon/tomorrow?
D) Something else?
Any suggestions . . . . . _________________ www.BigWolf.co.uk |

It's a poser, this sort of thing - and it happens all the time. (At least, it does to me: I swear that if I was in the middle of the Atacama Desert and had just found a cache, a dozen people would just appear out of nowhere and decide to have a picnic.)
A good example happened only four miles from Forest Fruits, at Zoo View in February. I had to walk around with that cache for nearly two hours...
Taking it home (or back to hotel) overnight would always be a last resort. I find that the old "photography" misdirection is still hard to beat. Since everyone known that amateur photo geeks are all bonkers, AND carry around bags with odd items in, you can sometimes get away with finding and/or re-hiding a cache under the very noses of Granny, Cedric, and Tiny Tim.

If it was my cache, I'd like you to wait 10-15 mins (as you did). If you still had no joy, take the cache with you, then email me A.S.A.P (so's I can update the cache page), and get the cache hidden again within the next day or so.
But I'm sure there's other cache owners that would like you to handle it differently.
Good question ! I wonder what the popular opinion is ? |

I suppose it depends on your perception of what the muggles are like, kids for example, don't even think about replacing the cache, you are asking for it to go missing, adults depends on my feelings on what they are like, people middle aged and above, sometimes take a chance and come clean. I have done this with my own caches and they have stayed where they are.
Ultimately though, it all depends on the feeling you get at the time.
A very hard descision indeed!! _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

.... the name "Herod" keeps rising in the back of my mind as I ponder this tricky ethical issue. Can't think why.
