Anyone done any paperless caching in the States?
I'm especially interested in finding out about electronic mapping. I use online Google Maps now and again in the UK along with a new app called GCz for the PocketPC.
Both of these connect online via GPRS/G3 to get map info and nearest unfound cache information - but in the UK this is done via my mobile provider - and uses UK web login info. I should imagine that this doesn't work in the US and I would need a US based cellphone provider plus login info pre programmed into my mobile?
Here at home I use Memory-Map and CacheMate - these of course would work well in the US - if only I had the US MM mapping!
I also know that my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx has a US base map on it as it is a US import - so that would work as a minimum.
According to Jack Aubrey, our well seasoned international jet setter, this is pretty techy stuff that he knows nothing about - he defers me to FoF. In her response, she tells me she uses pieces of paper when caching abroad!

How would it be if you could use offline (pre-loaded) mapping, for the area you're visiting?
It wouldn't be the same as Memory Map, but at least it would provide some idea of where you are in relation to the caches and roads.
There's an app called MGMaps which might work. Link: http://www.mgmaps.com/
This was developed for Java-enabled mobile phones and PDAs, but I think there's a version for PocketPC as well.
Worth checking out. It may (or may not) be a possible answer.

Had a quick look, looks like it could solve my US map problems. But since HNick is the techy person, I'll wait for his verdict. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain
