What batteries do you use? Normal or rechargeable? and what ones would you recommend as the best of both types?

The 2400 mAh is a measure of the total charge capacity of the battery. mAh stands for milliamp-hour, the milliamp being a unit of electric current. A 2400mAh battery is therefore capable of delivering the equivalent of 2400 milliamps (2.4 Amps) for one hour.

NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries are probably the most environmentally friendly battery type as they don't incorporate Cadmium - a highly toxic element, and don't suffer a "memory effect" (gradual loss of maximum capacity). Note that NiMH batteries may lose 1% of their charge per day but self-discharge is reduced at low temperatures.

Well you did ask . . . . .

Built in rechargeable in 'Quest' but 'Foretrex' varies between Duracell Ultra alkaline cells which I prefer but I have a set of 750mAh Duracell rechargeable AAA cells.
You can get 12 'Dynamic Power' (quality, quality...) AAA cells from Poundland for um, £1 so the vfm would appear to be there.
If anyone wishes to commision a 'leading brand' versus 'Dynamic Power' scientific comparison then £20's to the usual address!
