As we know we aren't allowed to place a cache any closer to another cache than 0.1 mile.
So what is the maximum distance that GC.com will allow you to place a cache apart?
I have found the answer, can you? _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

My tape measure makes it 20,000 Km, which would be thereabouts Paul's number if his units were miles, if you see what I mean. |

OK I was getting worried there, thought I had found duff info, but I am correct (I think?). The two above posts are on the correct lines but are wrong. _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you

20037.5085 km (approx)
Unless it is a "trick" question...
The maximum distance around the earth is at the equator as the earth is an oblate spheroid (squashed sphere..). So the maximum distance a cache can be away from another is exactly on the opposite side of the earth from the first cache.
(Unless ANY two maxima at this distance leaves the second cache all at sea, which of course would not be allowed)
Then there is the problem of vacation caches, so you would have to convince gc.com that you regularily visited the second spot if the first one was where you lived at the equator. |

For the people that gave calculations which equate to the other side of the world, technically you are correct
OK here is my answer. It is - 24,901.45 miles.
Now to explain, if you placed a cache on the equator and then travelled East or West (doesn't really matter), to keep within GC.coms guidelines you wouldn't be able to go any further than 24,901.45 miles.
This would however put you only 0.1 mile away from the original location, so if your skint go the opposite way
So the arguments of discontent can now start, just don't expect a reply from me. _________________ Let me know if I say anything that offends you
