This third unit is now over a year old, and the same lines appear on the screen occasionally, but not so much as to make it difficult to use.
I've found their service very fast and reliable. |
Looks like I spoke too soon.
When I turn it one now all I get is rippling black and white lines. The rubber grip around the side has been loose for a long time and nearly came off altogether in the heat and humidity of Thailand. Do I dare send this one back to Garmin again?? |
I've been using Jack's spare yellow etrex, but finally got around to sending my Vista back to Garmin. It was 2.5 years old, and pretty battered, and of course well past its warranty. But they have sent me a brand new Vista C (still to work out how it differs from a plain Vista apart from a USB connection and a bike mounting screw) for £57.11. A strange price but I think worth it. Of course, it really should have lasted more than 2.5 years, but I made mine work very hard. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

Wow, thats a pretty good deal you got!
Did you have to send them back the original sales receipt, or where they happy with the unit on its own?
How long did it take them to deal with the return and turn-around the replacement? |

They contacted me by phone within a day or two. Then once I paid over the phone, the unit appeared within two days (although they had said it could take up to 10 working days).
And I have since discovered after switching it on that the 'C' stands for colour, which is so much better. It's brilliant and has more features than the old one too. I'm laughing.
I did send all of the original paperwork including a copy of the original receipt. USB connection, but no manual, but I think I can live without that. _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

One more question: Is there a downloadable USB driver for this unit? _________________ Utterly smitten by a Captain

I was about to have a go with Garmin service to see if they'd consider doing anything with my Legend.... however, no need... I lost it whilst caving a couple of weekends back!!
Decided to fork out for a Garmin 60CS which isn't half bad. Garmin just replaced it with an updated model, so it knocked a fair bit off the price tag (and its still a new unit with 12 month warranty).
Without rambling on too much, I'll just quickly say that the electronic compass is great. It means you can be near a cache and providing you have sat signal, the pointer will point at the cache even if you're standing still.
I've still to drop it into a river (or less desirable bodies of water!), however if my track record is consistent, it won't be long. The last two units passed this test |
